    ORGANIZATION SUMMARY:

Client Service & Support (CS&S) is the primary service and trading arm for Schwab Investor Services.  CS&S provides service to our retail clients to fulfill our purpose of helping everyone become financially fit.  We inspire client loyalty by providing guidance and solutions to fulfill client needs and have a focus on employee development and collaboration.

    ROLE DESCRIPTION:

As a Broker Trainee in CS&S at Charles Schwab, you will be on the “fast-track” to becoming a licensed broker.   During your first 8-10 months of employment with Schwab, you will function as a Client Service Representative (CSR) while also being in an extensive training program to acquire the knowledge for, and obtain, Series 7 and 63 broker licenses.  Once licensed, you will be promoted from a CSR to a Licensed Broker, which usually occurs within a Trainee’s first 10 months of employment (timing may vary depending on training schedules and business need).

Initially, as a CSR, you will:

    • Demonstrate energy, empathy, and problem solving skills while delivering unparalleled value and outstanding service to our clients via the phone, taking approximately 30 to 60 inbound calls per day (this is not a face-to-face position).
    • Actively navigate between 5 or more open computer programs at any one given time, on dual monitors, while speaking with clients on the phone.  Programs regularly used include: internet applications, databases, client account information, Microsoft Excel, email, etc.
    • Assist Schwab clients to navigate our products and services, and respond to client inquiries including account servicing, cost basis information, and product knowledge support.

Once a licensed broker, you will add to your role with the following supplementary responsibilities:

    • Place trades, discuss the market conditions and trends, and provide investment information and guidance to clients
    • Discuss financial products with clients, including stocks and options, bonds and fixed income products, mutual funds, ETFs, CDs & money markets, margin loans, and annuities
    • Uncover business development opportunities and respond to research requests

CSRs, Brokers, and Trainees work in a fast-paced environment with a structured schedule, on small, highly collaborative teams of 10-15 professionals with a supportive manager who is focused on development and coaching.

Those hired into the Broker Trainee Program are hired under a Condition of Employment (COE) to obtain Series 7 and 63 broker licenses within a specified time period.  This COE means that if you do not successfully complete the licensing requirement, you may be subject to termination.

    SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION:

Because clients may connect with us at any time of day, representatives work a variety of shifts, which may include market (M-F daytime) hours, late nights, early mornings, and/or weekends.  New hires “bid” on preferred shifts during their training period.  We are unable to guarantee a particular shift and so we request as much schedule flexibility as possible.

Representatives are paid a salary (rather than the pressure of commissions), and receive additional compensation for overtime hours and shift differentials, along with the ability to earn an annual bonus ($3,250 on average) based on high performance, adherence to quality standards and profitable company growth.  The salary rate is set at $34,000, and may increase following successful completion of the Trainee program and when promoted into a Licensed Broker role, dependant on prior experience and performance levels.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

Broker Trainee candidates must pass an industry-standard screening test which indicates the likelihood of passing the Series 7 examination.  If this test is not successfully passed, you will not be able to be considered for this program.  This test is administered on-site at a Schwab location, and you will be invited to take the test if you meet initial qualifications.

Broker Trainee new hires must also sign a condition of employment stating that they will take applicable brokerage industry examinations and become registered no later than 180 days after the start of your Examination Prep Course, which will be scheduled within the first 150 days of your employment.

    Other required minimum qualifications are:
